Rants and Raves of a Bum

Photo by Unknown / Public Domain

There was a time in the not-too-distant gaming past when console manufacturers would be able to set the internet alight with sneak peeks of next-generation consoles. Often this buzz would bubble up within the global gaming community shortly after the present-generation consoles had been released to the market! This time around, however, there seems to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm from the big console manufacturers about future hardware releases and an awful lot of chatter about streaming.

The rumour mill...

Rumours started to fly when both Sony and Microsoft went all coy about their next releases. There’s still no concrete information about their next generations of consoles. Instead, Sony has released some brief information about what the hardware will look like, and Microsoft has gone off on a tangent about distribution tactics and the like. These snippets of gossip have led some tech insiders to conclude that the future generation of consoles will play much like high-end PCs do now and that streaming games from a central server will play a big role in the future of console gaming.

Then, after chats with head honchos from Ubisoft and Microsoft, Variety published that article proclaiming the death of the console. CEO of the former, Yves Guillemot, was pretty outspoken about his thoughts on the subject: “I think streaming will become more accessible and make it not necessary to have big hardware at home...there will be one more console generation and then after that, we will be streaming”.

Microsoft’s Phil Green, however, didn’t stray from the company line that their intention is to make gaming accessible to everyone: “I care...that people can play Minecraft no matter what console or device they have in front of them.”

Meanwhile, PlayStation already has its own streaming service, PS Now, which lets gamers stream releases directly to their consoles, as well as PS Vue, which is the TV version of the service. But the company has released some information about the PS5’s hardware, specifically its GPU architecture, Navi. Some extensive reporting by PCGamesN revealed that this GPU isn’t even as powerful as some of the GPUs used in the top 2018 gaming PCs, which would effectively make a console that will potentially be released in 2020 less powerful than a 2018 computer.

Why the furor?

So why all the furor about streaming for next-gen consoles? Streaming has been an integral part of certain aspects of gaming (such as eSports) for years. As competitive gaming has developed, the rise of live streaming has enabled burgeoning players to generate income without needing to travel or play in tournaments. Plus, PC gamers have been playing streaming games from online multiplayer platforms like Steam since their creation.

The main issue seems to be that the infrastructure just isn’t there to support streaming for console gaming—just look at the situation with the potential PS5. Streaming a game, especially those 4k resolution ones that are all the rage with top gaming studios, requires a hell of a lot of bandwidth that some gamers just don’t have. Sure, playing console games with an internet connection does unlock several extra experiences; however, it’s the individual gamer’s choice to make.

The future

Then there’s the question of whether or not the hardware itself can support the technical demands of streaming large games from a central farm server. Streaming might very well be the future of console gaming, but we’re talking ten years or more down the line—not two. And when it does happen, it’s a process that gaming companies, development studios, internet service providers, and even local governments will need to work together on to ensure that the global gaming community will continue to enjoy the high-quality entertainment that it's used to.

Do you have a phone? It’s practically a definite that you do; there isn’t even a 10-year-old out there these days that doesn’t have a mobile to call their parents on when they’re on the way home from school. And for good reason; phones have a multitude of uses, and nowadays the communication factor is often the least quoted on the market! But considering the constant use we can get out of our phones, is there anything we can do about the battery lasting for such a short time?

When it comes to maintaining your electronics, there’s a lot of ideas about what works and what doesn’t. It seems even though phones and pads etc. all roll off the line together, each one has its own way of being repaired and working to the full. But there’s a lot of work around you can do with your battery, and because of that, listed below are some tips you might just find useful in your quest to go a whole day without charging your phone.

Source

Use Airplane Mode Liberally

Your phone is one of the main forms of long distance communication, and that means your phone is always going to be on the lookout for a signal. And because of that, battery is going to drain as it searches for a few bars you can use to send a text and make a call; if you’ve been in an area with bad reception, every message you’ve missed is going to come through at once and suck at least 20% of your battery out of the system!

So if you want to keep playing FFXV A New Empire for a little while longer when you’re out and about, or even just at home on your sofa, use airplane mode to keep your battery on the green side for at least 20 or so minutes longer than usual. Airplane mode isn’t just for traveling after all!

Keep Your Phone Cool

If you’ve been using your phone for a while, and it’s starting to feel warm in your palm, put it down for a couple of minutes and let it cool off. This way you won’t be sucking out all the battery as the phone works to keep itself at an optimum temperature as you keep using it; all those apps generate wasted energy in heat form, and that’s the energy you need for your battery!

No Location Services!

A quick point to finish off, but an important one all the same. If you have apps that require location services to be turned on, only let them use them when you’re actually using those apps. If not, turn all location services off and don’t let your phone spend a good portion of its battery searching for you on maps.

Got a useful tip to share? Feel free to let everyone know about it! We need all the help we can to keep our phones in tip-top shape, and this works wonders!

An Employer Identification Number, or EIN, is a nine-digit number used to track a business’s tax responsibilities by the IRS in the United States. An EIN number is compared to a Social Security Number as it has the same function, except it is for businesses instead of individuals. At IRS-EIN-Tax-ID, an EIN number can easily be applied for. Only one EIN is needed per legal business, but there are instances when more than one EIN number is needed. Learn more about multiple EIN’s below.

Multiple EINs

If you are a business owner who owns multiple corporations, limited liability corporations, partnerships or other entities, like an estate or trust, you are required by the IRS to have an independent identification number. A Tax ID for estate or other legal entities is needed for tax purposes.
Each separate legal entity will need an EIN. The term legal entity is used to describe an entity that is able to engage in contracts and agreements, incur debt and pay the debt, and be held liable for independent actions.

Applying for an EIN

If you need an EIN, you can easily apply online. You will need to select the type of entity you have, be it a trust, estate, partnership, corporation, etc. Once the type of business is selected, you will need to fill out an application that focuses on this business type. After the application is completed, hit submit.
After submission, approval must be provided for the EIN. After you are approved, the number will be emailed to you. With this number, you have a method of identification, which can then be used to create a business bank account, a credit card for your entity or apply for loans.
The process is simple and helps you to save time in obtaining an EIN number that will be used for your business.

Extraordinary AI Photography experience set new industry benchmarks for mobile innovation

Manila, 21 June 2018 – Vivo on Thursday released the X21 flagship smartphone in the Philippines to bring users a brand new and futuristic unlocking experience with industry-leading In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology. Combined with its FullView™ Display, AI photography and upgraded face recognition technology, the X21 is the ideal mobile partner for the tech-savvy consumer.

Through its continuous research into user needs, Vivo has consistently pursued innovation to solve consumer pain points. Having invested in long-term research and development to overcome the problems posed by mass producing In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, Vivo is finally bringing this secure and intuitive unlocking solution to more consumers. Vivo has also made major technology breakthroughs with its FullView™ Display and AI photography featured in the X21.

Two unlocking technologies to bring double convenience

Vivo has been the industry pioneer of In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology from showcasing its first prototype demonstration to successful mass production. To ensure user expectations for this technology are being met, Vivo has tasked its teams to innovate and perfect this technology on the new X21 to provide a reliable and secure unlocking solution for all consumers.

Vivo X21 replaces the rear fingerprint sensor with the latest In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology. This allows the sleek and unified design of the smartphone to be preserved without the need for a rear fingerprint sensor. With mere a flick of the wrist and a press on the screen to unlock, this convenient and seamless process is intuitive for any user.

Other than In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, X21 also offers upgraded facial recognition technology with Face Access which scans users’ facial features for enhanced security.

Impressive FullView™ experience with a screen-to-body ratio of over 90%

Vivo X21 has a 6.28-inch 19:9 FHD+ FullView™ Display. With a super slim notch and 1.66mm side bezels, it achieves a 90.3% screen-to-body ratio to provide a wider viewing experience compared to other similar-sized phones. Vivo has even enhanced its software to support the notch and developed a notification bar that maintains an immersive experience. Maximizing the beauty of the display, Vivo X21 uses P3 display color management technology and supports a P3 wide color gamut to ensure more accurate, natural and saturated colors.

Taking phone design to the extraordinary, X21 has ditched the metal body for a new 3D glass back cover. Every arc and curve on the back cover is ergonomically optimized to ensure comfort in your hand, with only 3.1mm thick in the middle. More than just smooth to the touch, X21 uses a new color-blending technique, which creates a unique luster that creates its elegant look.

AI Photography Brings a Superior User Experience

X21 continues Vivo’s heritage of photography leadership, featuring 12MP (24 million photographic units) front and rear cameras with Dual Pixel Sensors. The secondary rear camera is 5MP. Thanks to the larger photographic area of each pixel, X21’s camera significantly boosts picture clarity. On top of this, the X21 features fast focusing technology that rivals DSLRs, which enables it to focus fast and capture the depth of field data in every pixel.

Vivo X21’s AI Scene Recognition not only identifies night, sports, vibration or backlight scenarios, but it can also detect and identify 18 tags and 140 scenarios such as portraits, food, and plants as it shoots. It then actively adjusts photography settings and effects to make it easy for the user to capture a great photo.

By upgrading Vivo’s photography technologies with AI, Vivo’s AI Face Beauty and AI HDR features can identify the subject’s sex, skin tone and surrounding lighting environment to create the ideal facial enhancement settings, even in a backlit environment. With AI Face Beauty learning the user’s specific preferences for beauty, it can generate custom beautification effects tailored to each user. Think of X21 as your personal make-over team packed into one intelligent device.

System level optimization enhances mobile entertainment

Hardware forms the basis of any user experience. The X21 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE chip which can effectively utilize CPU resources for complex AI and neural computing. Its 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM increases the speed of launching, loading and switching even large and complex mobile games. With the large storage space, users can go wild downloading all the applications, movies and photos they want without the hassle of clearing space.

While gaming, the system will automatically adjust the CPU to optimize performance according to the game’s resources for a smoother gaming experience. The Game Mode on X21 even prevents accidental touch operations, ensuring gamers only make the moves they intended.
X21 continues Vivo’s Hi-Fi legacy and houses the AK4376A audio chipset. It is also equipped with Deep Field technology, which was developed by Vivo to provide panoramic surround, mega bass, clear voice effects and various environmental audio effects, allowing users to tailor their audio experience.

Tourists visiting the “Land of the Rising Sun” have a lot of attractions to look forward to. Osaka is regarded as the country’s food paradise. Kyoto, on the other hand, is well-known for its picturesque temples and shrines. The main attraction, however, remains to be Tokyo, its capital city. This ultra-modern metropolis is a shopping mecca that contains an abundance of delights that can cater to the most discriminating of tastes.

This article will be about providing some general information on how to maximize your shopping experience during your trip.

Bring ready cash

Japan is one of the leading nations in the world when it comes to cutting-edge technology. Remarkably, however, there are still a good number of businesses that prefer accepting cash over credit. In fact, some of them would still need to have a payment terminal installed. Such stores are mostly “mom and pop” businesses and small restaurants. There are usually interesting finds here though there are of course many to be found in department stores and branded outlets as well.

Having a cash-based culture is only part of the reason. The Japanese tend to put more emphasis on saving than using credit. Another explanation for the moderate penetration of credit card acceptance is the bank fees collected from merchants. Banks reportedly charge around 3.6% though this figure tends to become lower for larger businesses due to the higher volume of transactions. You might also want to check the foreign transaction fees your credit card company charges if any.

Save on finance charges

Having cash with you is one thing, constantly withdrawing it from an ATM is quite another. Japanese ATMs have different operating procedures than those around the world. An odd thing about it is the introduction of operating hours with corresponding transaction fees. Those made during working hours on weekdays are usually free. Any withdrawals made outside of these times could go between 105 yen to 210 yen (or higher) and can add up if done frequently.

Japan is a country that has a very low crime rate so it is generally safe to carry a large amount of cash around. Lost wallets are normally returned and items mistakenly left behind will generally still be there if found by the owner. Though being cautious about your money is still encouraged, there is less chance that you would lose it in this highly ethical nation. It makes sense to have a good amount of foreign currency exchanged upon your arrival with money changers offering competitive rates.

Bring your passport

Purchases of regular commodities and consumable items are taxed at a rate of 8% in Japan. This is called their Consumption Tax. It is similar to a Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Value Added Tax (VAT) in other countries. If you are tourist staying in the country for less than six months, however, you are exempt from paying it provided you present your passport at the store. There are two different procedures with some steps to follow in order for you to avail of the privilege.

This would usually entail an accumulated purchase of 5,000 yen or more in the same store on the same day. There are numerous participating shops that are easily identified through their tax-free or duty-free signage. Make sure you look out for these before doing your shopping. Why pay an additional 8% on your larger expenses when you only have to bring your passport and follow some practical guidelines?

Best place to buy luxury goods

If you have a penchant for the finer things in life then look no further. Japan has a wide selection of designer goods and high-fashion products. Its enormous demand for such items easily places the country among the world’s top consumers. This will make it easier for you to find any of your favorite brands.

Among them are luxury watches. These may be purchased tax-free and for an excellent price. There are different stores which offer such items though try to visit ones that offer an extensive list of choices. Those having a complete range of watches from Rolex watches to Casio watches to choose from usually have a great website that has them on display. Research on them first to plan out your purchase.

Get around easier

Going to and from your shopping destinations should be as smooth as possible. You can choose to use taxis or any of the ride-sharing apps should you have Internet access. If you are feeling adventurous however and want to see more of the area you are in, try getting an Integrated Circuit (IC) Card. It helps you board most buses, subways, and trains with these rechargeable cards. They may conveniently be used in a good majority of Japan’s larger cities and are compatible with popular IC Card companies.

Many of us have the impression that storing our foods in the refrigerator will keep them fresh and safe. But, not having your appliance set at the right temperature can create a breeding ground for harmful bacteria to grow and flourish, which can result in an unsafe environment for food storage for you and your kids.

Improper food storage and sanitation can lead to a high risk of foodborne illnesses, especially this rainy season. Among these diseases is listeriosis, a serious infection caused by eating food with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeriosis can be dangerous to pregnant women, newborns, children, and elderly, and can result to fever, muscle aches, or even gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea.

As such, refrigerating a food contaminated with Listeria can cause it to spread to other food products inside the refrigerator that may be making your child prone to sickness.

The good news, however, is that there are various ways we can do to reduce the risk of listeriosis at home by raising an awareness on proper refrigerator care to help improve the quality of food that you and your kids eat.

Consume Use-By Date food products immediately

Use-by date refers to the final day by which perishable goods should be consumed.  After the recommended date, food quality is likely to go down and the food safety is lessened.
Therefore, it is important to make sure that food products are eaten before their use by date and not after.

You may realize that use-by date products spoil easily. Thus, it is crucial for you to follow storage instructions. However, take note that you should follow the use by dates on unopened ready-to-eat food products and not be storing food packages after they have been opened. Storing opened food products in the refrigerator can increase the risk of Listeria to grow.

Clean your refrigerator regularly

It is important to wipe food spills immediately to keep Listeria from growing and spreading to other foods. You can clean the inside walls and shelves with hot water and a mild liquid dishwashing detergent then rinse it thoroughly.

Likewise, make sure to throw old and spoiled foods that may cause growth and spread of bacteria. Try moving older foods in the front part of your fridge to make it more visible so that it can be consumed before it gets spoiled.

Keep raw meat, poultry, or fish, which may contain several bacteria, from cooked meals. Also, make sure that raw meats are at the bottom part of the shelf to avoid it from dripping. However, it is still better to have them sealed in a tight container.

Properly sanitizing your refrigerator can avoid different types of bacteria like Coliforms, Vibrio, Salmonella, E-Coli, Botulinum, and Pseudomonas—all of which harmful to the human health—from growing on foods such as raw meat, milk, fish, and more.

There are plenty of big families out there, so we decided to tweak things a little to create more room in our fridges.

Keep your refrigerator at the right temperature

Having your refrigerator at the proper temperature can avoid or slow the growth of Listeria. To check if your refrigerator is at the right temperature, put an appliance thermometer inside and make the necessary adjustment in the temperature control. Makes sure that your refrigerator register at 40°F (4°C) or below and your freezer at 0°F (-18°C).

Refrigerating below the recommended 4℃  will significantly slow the growth of bacteria. But as the temperature rises, the bacteria can grow at a faster rate, which can result to spoilage, wastage, and food poisoning.

Your refrigerator plays an important role in keeping your food safe and free from any bacteria that can result in foodborne illnesses. In fact, operating at the wrong temperature can leave room for the bacteria to get the nutrients and temperature it needs to grow inside your refrigerator.

While refrigerators can be a breeding ground for foodborne illnesses, Beko Refrigerator’s Active Ioniser neutralizes the bacteria that cause effluvia to create an antibacterial effect to keep the refrigerator from harmful pathogens such as Listeria. Also, Its Blue Light Technology allows for a continuous process of photosynthesis, allowing fresh produce to maintain their natural flavors and nutritional value for up to 30 days.

On top of that, the Beko Refrigerator’s new age of NeoFrost Technology keeps the humidity of their refrigerator at an optimum level of up to 90 percent in the cooler for longer freshness. It also makes for a more stable and faster cooling for both the cooler and the freezer compartments at A+ energy efficiency level. Moreover, its independent cooling systems also help in preventing odor transfer in between the compartments to keep the quality of the air inside at maximum levels.

If you love something, treat it well. We all love food, so shouldn't we start treating it with a bit more of the respect that it deserves? With Beko’s new cooling technology, food can finally enjoy the comfort and conditions that it sure is entitled to.
