Don't Avoid The Doctor If You Have Any Of These Embarrassing Medical Conditions

Despite the fact that we all know just how important it is to see the doctor regularly if there is something wrong, many people are pretty reluctant to do so. There are a lot of reasons for this. Some people simply don't like the environment of a doctor's office; some people would rather bury their head in the sand and ignore the problem, and some people are simply embarrassed by whatever condition they have. This last one is perhaps the most common. No illness is particularly glamorous, but when it's something private or embarrassing, that can be even worse for a lot of people. However, just because something is a little bit embarrassing doesn't mean that you shouldn't get it checked out as soon as possible. With that in mind, here are some of the most common "embarrassing problems" that you really should speak to your doctor about.

Ingrown toenails

dress, fashion, feet

People can be funny about their feet. We keep them hidden a lot of the time, and when something is wrong with them, it's something that we tend to be pretty embarrassed about. A lot of the time things that are wrong with people's feet tend to be considered a sign that they are somehow unclean. Of course, this is totally ridiculous. Not only that but avoiding the doctor when you've got an ingrown toenail can be genuinely dangerous. There's a serious risk of infection with an ingrown toenail which can lead to some pretty serious problem. Luckily, your doctor can often deal with it with a pretty simple procedure. You can learn more about this procedure here. Sure, having your foot in someone's face is hardly the most glamorous situation in the world, but you have to remember that your doctor is a trained professional and yours certainly won't be the first or last foot they ever see in their office.

IBS

Let's face it, anything that goes on below the waist tends to be a source of embarrassment for a lot of people. IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, is an incredibly common condition that can have serious consequences for a lot of people, and yet a lot of people refuse to deal with it because they don't want to have to speak to someone about it. Again, it's important to remember that your doctor will have seen this kind of thing plenty of times before and there's not going to be any judgment. Sure, the things that you do in the bathroom might not be a suitable conversation topic with friends, but your doctor is more than happy to hear about it.

Bad breath

There are a lot of assumptions that are made about someone when they have bad breath. It's assumed that they don't brush their teeth, or that they are somehow unclean. This can cause a lot of people to be incredibly embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. This means that they often hide away and refuse to face up to the problem at all because they think it's their fault. In reality, there are dozens of causes of bad breath that have nothing to do with your own personal levels of hygiene. Your doctor can help guide you towards solutions and help you take back control of your life.
