Struggling To Get A Job? Possible Reasons Why You Aren't Getting Hired






Hunting for a job isn’t easy. You aren’t the only gal on the block applying for the latest positions advertised. However, if you have been looking for a job for a while, going through the usual routine of making job applications and going for interviews, but are still not getting hired, then you may need to step back and consider why. You aren’t unemployable, but you may be making some mistakes that are preventing you from getting back on track on the career ladder.

Here are some of the reasons why you aren’t getting hired.


1. You are under-skilled

You need to stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs, so having the right skills for the role is necessary. Have a good look at the job description, and don’t apply for anything that you are underskilled to take on. Unfortunately, your good looks and winning personality will only get you so far. Go back to school if you need to brush up on your skills and grab yourself a few more qualifications. You will stand a better chance if you do. Be realistic, too. You will only face disappointment when you apply for something that is way above your skill level. Sorry, but you may have to leave the brain surgeon positions to somebody else, no matter how many medical programmes you have seen on the television.

2. Your resume doesn’t showcase your potential

You may have had some fantastic jobs in the past, and you may have all the skills the employer is looking for, but if you have made some of these resume mistakes, you aren’t going to get an interview. You need to sell yourself right at the beginning of the application process, showcasing your talents and achievements in your work and personal history. Be sure to check the job requirements of the employer, and adjust your resume accordingly, to tailor yourself to the job you are applying for.

3. You aren’t showing passion

You may not be excited about the position you are applying for, but you need to make an effort to show a little passion. Sometimes a job is just a job, but the employer will see right through you if you don’t show an ounce of care for the role. From the letter of application to the interview itself, show a keenness for the company you are applying to. Do your research, find out about the company, and have some ideas up your sleeve for the job role. If the job is something you are definitely excited about, make sure the employer knows it. Convey your reasons why, and despite your nerves at the interview, share your enthusiasm with the people interviewing you.

4. You are making a bad first impression

Not only do you need to show your passion, but you also need to go the extra mile to make an excellent first impression. These are some of the ways you can impress the employer at interview. People make a judgment on us very quickly, and there isn’t time for the interviewer to get to see the real you when you are first sat in that interview chair. Therefore, focus on that first impression, so your application isn’t thrown onto the rejection pile before you have really had a chance to prove yourself.
