Some of us are fortunate enough to know exactly what we want to do with our lives when it comes to our careers, others fall into jobs and make their career decisions later in life. But if you have found that you are doing something you enjoy or working within an industry then you may want to look at ways to progress. So I thought I would share with you some of the things you could consider.

Take online courses to give you more knowledge

One of the first things you could consider doing would be to take online courses and increase the knowledge you already have. Some career development will require you to have different skills perhaps or even accreditation’s to your name so this is when things like an online accredited MBA could come in handy. It will not only help you to get the job you want, but it also shows your dedication and desire to progress by doing this in your own time.

Show initiative in the workplace

Another thing you can do is to show initiative in the workplace. This could be when it comes to things like added responsibility or working later to take on extra work. It shows someone above you that you are willing to do the work that is necessary and to take the relevant steps. An initiative can also be in terms of suggesting things in meetings or speaking up with feedback or criticism when necessary. It can give the impression that you have the knowledge to progress and the ideas to make it happen.

Don’t be afraid of added responsibility

On the subject of added responsibility, often this can be something that people are afraid of asking for, through fear or messing up. But if you don’t take that leap of faith, in some cases, you may not even know whether you are cut out for the role you thought you wanted.

Have a plan and long-term goals

It is important for you to have some sort of long-term plan to ensure that you can make this happen, or you at least know the direction you want to take. There may be several routes to the top of the career ladder, so knowing which route to take that would suit and your skill set better will help you plan out your long-term goals and know exactly what you want from the future.

Move if you don’t feel you are on the right track

Finally, if you don’t feel like you are getting anywhere with the company you are working with don't be afraid to move to a different one. Sometimes a company can take advantage of good employees and you may find that they just want to keep you at the level you are at. Leaving, or even discussing the possibility could motivate them to help you succeed with them instead of elsewhere.

I hope that these tips help you to progress further in your chosen career.
